DAY 2 ALVERCA - AZAMBUJA

30/8/2018

Distance 30,6km
Total distance 32,96km

Cloud cover and rain made for a slightly cooler walk today.

We started along the busy N10 highway for a couple of kilometers. Lots of trucks but a decent width verge. We then joined the beautiful Tagus River edge boardwalks beautifully decorated with street art murals from Alhandra to Castanheira.

We passed the lovely town of VilaFranca with only the last leg walking in exposed 35° plus temperatures. Unfortunately I have picked up a few blisters which will need some tlc.

A challenging day, partly due to having to walk on busy roads! (Those that know me know my history with trucks!!)

DAY 1 LISBON (SÉ CATHEDRAL) - ALVERCA

30/8/2018

Distance 29,61km
Total distance 34,91km

An early start after catching the train into central Lisbon, ensured that we started walking around 7.30am. Winding through the almost deserted Lisbon streets on a Sunday morning, we were thankful that it was quiet, calm and inspiring as we had no distractions of everyday working life, especially when going through the industrial areas.

The wide brimmed hats came on as super hot. 35° plus, with little to no shade. Met our first Pilgrim, the lovely Petra all the way from Czech Republic The afternoon trek, through the Tagus river reed beds, for the last 5kms up to Alverca proved draining.

Happy to get to our hotel after our first 32kms.

Washed our clothes socks etc. hope they dry by the morning! .
