DAY 9 RABAÇAL - COIMBRA

4/9/2018

We woke up to an early misty and drizzly departure which was a magical relief after the last weeks draining high temperatures.

Our walk today stayed cool, wet and undulating through many small towns.

We stopped at the monastery and hugely opulent Igreja de Santa Clara and had our credentials stamped before crossing the Mondego river to Coimbra.

We checked into the iconic (tired now though!) Astória Hotel. This Art Nouveau flat-iron building was built in 1919 and opened in 1924, and was the first hotel in Portugal to offer in-room telephones to its Guests!

Spent the afternoon exploring Coimbra, it’s churches, university and streets. Had the most delicious Açaí cup for dinner, absolute pure, healthy deliciousness!

Very tired feet tonight!
