SUNSHINE & BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

DAY 16 (Mon 10 Sep)
MATSINHOS - VILA DO CONDE
We left our hotel around 7.30 this morning. We enjoyed our stay at our very friendly Pensão Central. We had both slept pretty well given the fact that we were almost camping on the tracks!

We followed the railway tracks for about a kilometer before joining the Camino route which led us over the River Leça. Luckily for us the bridge wasn’t raised for boats at that time .

We say goodbye to this laid back town and join the wide boardwalks that take us North along the scenic Atlantic coastline.

Beautiful beaches and facilities litter the walk. Unfortunately a great big oil refinery sits in prime position along this coastline too. Very neat and clean though!

A lovely days walk, along these extensive wooden boardwalks “paseos de madera”, greeted us after that, and we enjoyed every minute of our walk.

We passed lots of fairly mundane hamlets, but one that stood out was a charming fisherman’s beach at Angeiras and one got the sense that many of their daily chores have been done like that for decades.

An extra special moment was when we bumped into our young Polish friends again and walked and chatted away which made the day seem even shorter!

Our arrival after 22 odd kms in Vila do Conde heralded a beautiful town which we agreed a separate visit was needed.

Our lodging for tonight ticked all the boxes with a lovely sauna and swim to relax those few aches.

Beun Camino !!
