Day 27
CALDAS DE REIS TO PADRON

Penultimate Day !!!

Leaving our “Fawlty Towers” accommodation this morning, and a wholly disappointing and unsatisfactory breakfast, the first thing we did was to find the nearest cafe for a shot of expresso to lift our spirits. The Spanish always do it with style in that they give you a pastry treat with your order, for nada! Just delish!

Knowing today was not going to be a long distance day ( 19km), we set out with an easy pace, taking in our surroundings, and greeting the hoards of pilgrims spilling out onto the streets.

There is an elevated energy amongst the pilgrims today, mainly I suppose as it’s a mere 40 odd Km’s to go to final destination, and the penultimate day. Lots of smiles and greetings, and people wanting to know where you are from and what your “story” is.

An undulating walk today between beautiful forests and the dreaded asphalt and cobbles too!!🙈 Those cobbles, torture reflexology !!

A League of Nations of pilgrims, with many languages and ages. Everyone has their own motivation for doing the Camino, (which constitutes only having to do 100km on foot to Santiago), and each no less important than another. We made a few more contacts for our Greening quest , and look forward to following up with each one. This is still early days in our knowledge curve so any advice is absorbed and accepted thankfully.

If anyone reading these blogs has contacts and knowledge where we can ensure the maximization of our knowledge and ultimate reduction in the unit cost per tree planted, we would be most grateful to hear from you.

Padron our overnight base for this evening has religious and historical importance for the Camino, and many Roman and Viking invasion targets too.

For us today, it’s importance is that it is a mere 23-26 km away (depends whose book you follow 😜) from Santiago de Compostela, and the end of our Trekking4Trees journey.
