DAY 4 SANTAREM - AZINHAGA

What a challenge today turned out to be!!!

We started later than usual as we decided to have breakfast at the Casa and also as we had planned a shorter day due to expected temps in the late 30°s.

We missed the Camino yellow route arrows, not once but twice and ended up doing 30km.

Walking along sandy, uneven farm roads for most of the distance in unrelenting heat certainly tested us.

My efforts to put less stress on my feet by wearing walking sandals ended up aggravating the situation due to the dust, with the result that they have now become infected. Antibiotics here we come!

Arrived in Azinhaga to a very hospitable Helena whose Auberge, Casa de Azzancha we spent the night at. Such a delightful lady, who upon hearing I was Vegan made us the most delicious home made vegetable soup on the house. Such is the spirit of the Camino, so humbling.
